Even before she starred in Deep Impact, Leelee Sobieski was touted as being one of the next big things in Hollywood. She started very young, with roles in films as young as 14 but it wasn’t until 1998 when she really began to set the acting world alight. Her performance in the film, A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries received national acclaim and she was nominated for the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Newcomer. After this, there was no stopping this young actress who has, quite simply, gone from strength to strength; making the transition between teen actress and adult actress look relatively seamless.

Her first leading role was in the film Joan of Arc where she played Joan. For this performance she received 3 nominations at separate awards ceremonies, including a nomination for the Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie and a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film. She has averaged about 3 films per year which, for an actor of just 28, is very impressive. These films have been very iconic as well, with such titles as the acclaimed Wicker Man and Hercules. Sobieski does have an added advantage over many other actresses; she speaks fluent French. She is, therefore, not restricted to English speaking films and would be very capable of taking part in French cinema as well; as is shown by her performance in the French television series Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 2003.

In the role of Joan of Arc she played the lead role which gave her the honors of being nominated for many different awards. Last year she appeared in a short part of the movie Public Enemies which was again another block buster hit.

In 2001 Lee Lee Sobieski starred in the made for television movie Uprising. This was one of her most acclaimed performances earning Lee Lee a Golden Globe nomination for the Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film. Uprising was made in 2001 and is a war/drama movie about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. This film was directed by Jon Avnet, and written by Jon Avent and Paul Brickman. Filming took place in Bratislava, Slovakia and Austria.

Uprising is the story of Polish people of the Jewish faith who were imprisoned by the German army. This is the remarkable story of how these people rose up in the Warsaw Ghetto against the Germans in 1943.

Lee Lee plays the role of Tova Altman. Tova or Toshia Altman lived from 1918 to 1943. Tova worked with Mordechai Anielewicz as a member of the ZOB during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The ZOB was an organized resistance movement. The ZOB was instrumental in the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto.

Tova was initially a courier for the ZOB, making contact with other Jewish resistance groups that were outside the Ghetto. She passed on messages providing them with updates on clashes and educational material that had been banned by the Germans. Tova was a critical link in helping to smuggle weapons and explosives into the Ghetto. After escaping capture in January of 1943, she moved into the ZOB bunker at 18 Mila Street. She is one of the few who survive a battle on the 8th of May that year. The bunker is abandoned and Nordechai Anielewicz is killed.

Tova is wounded in the leg and in the head. She is able to join a group of resistance fighters who were able to make a daring escape from the Ghetto through the sewers on May 10th 1943. There are around seventy five in this group of fighters. Tova Altman is captured by the Nazis on May 24th. She had been taking refuge in a celluloid factory when it caught on fire. Tova suffers severe burns and is taken into custody by the Gestapo. Not long after her capture Tova dies, she received no medical treatment from her German captures.

Even though you would not pick it from her name you would have to agree that Leelee Sobieski is one of the all time favorite American actresses who have starred in many great films around Hollywood and the world’s theatre. Leelee was born in 1982 which makes her a young 28 year old that has her entire career in front of her. With the acting and other work that she has done in the past there is no doubt that this girl will have her foot in the door for many new and exciting movies and events. Leelee has already received awards for best actress and best movie which is a great start to her career as well as the fact that she has already starred in several big block buster movies. Born in New York City to parents that were children of immigrants she worked her way through to the top of the selection for movies like Joan of Arc and others which were not as successful.

In 1997 we see her play a lead role in her second film as Karen the girl out of Jungle to Jungle which was a type of romantic comedy with a few other minor stars in it. This movie was not the best one to get going with however later she is cast in more prestigious roles. Joan of Arc was one which she won awards for in 1999 and again in 2000 because it was one of the historical movies which touched people’s hearts like Brave heart and the Patriot. The Glass House was another scary movie which she played in and did a great job with a very believable character. In 2005 she played a role in the Hercules movie which was a TV movie that did not go through the big screen. In The Wicker Man she plays an evil lady who is actually a witch that burns her husband alive to be used as a sacrifice. Public Enemies with Tom hanks is the next good movie that I recommend you to go and see since it is Leelee that plays a perfect role for her as one of the mobster’s friends.

If you have not seen Leelee Sobieski in a movie lately then you are probably not getting to the cinema often enough. In 2008 alone she stared in 4 movies including Walk all over me and Night Train. These were not some of her best work so far but still her acting is something to be admired. Leelee is a beautiful woman with all the right curves in the right places and both men and women like to see her in movies or on TV because they can relate to this young and gorgeous actress.

Leelee had a small role in the block buster Public Enemies where she plays a demanding role of someone that is not quite her usual cast. In the Movie Coven Leelee had us all wondering whether she was the good girl or the bad girl but whichever way it ends (I won’t spoil the surprise) you will be glued to your seats the whole time which was also the same in the Wicker man where she truly is evil. Around 2001 she stared in the Glass House which was one of her first big roles in the movies where as before that she had mainly stared in sitcoms.

Leelee has the god given gift to make us laugh, cry, sing or go crazy with her believable and modest acting skills. We can’t wait to see what lies in store for her next part within Hollywood which will no doubt be an absolute thriller. Just because Leelee has such a big fan base she should be very proud of the good work she has done so far and hopefully enjoys what she is doing in the future.

Born Liliane Rudabet 23 years ago in New York, Leelee Sobieski has been one major success in several fields where she has tried her hand in, this include movie and modeling. Her acting career is said to have commenced from the moment she was asked to audition for the “interview with the vampire: the vampire chronicles” back in 1994 at the tender age of thirteen. This is when we can correctly say she got discovered because from that platform she got the attention of renowned directors which climaxed in 1998 when Leelee Sobieski starred alongside such greats like Elijah Wood in the block buster Deep Impact.

This literally opened the flood gates of her collaboration with top-notch movie personalities like Tom cruise in Eyes Wide Shut in 1999 which didn’t disappoint while still working on the TV series by the name “Joan of Arc” which is reputed as having been nominated for Emmy award and two Golden Globes. It was while working on this that a romantic relationship with Stanley Kubrick began which could have blossomed and probably lead to marriage was it not for his untimely death.

Up to that juncture there was no looking back because she had established her name in the movie industry which was comparable only to the likes of Drew Barrymore and Diane Lane whom she co-starred with in “Never Been Kissed” and the “Glass House” respectively. Leelee Sobieski will also be remembered for having co-starred with Chris Klein and Josh Hartnet in the movie “Here on Earth” where she acted splendidly as Samantha in the cast earning the trio nomination for the teen choice award which they ultimately won.

Leelee Sobieski’s acting career spanning between 1997 to date is one of the most successful in the whole of the Hollywood, no wonder she’s still a much sought after actress.
