Leelee Sobieske was born Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski, on June 10th 1982 in New York City. Leelee’s parents are Elizabeth, who is an American novelist and screenwriter and Jean a French painter and former actor. Elizabeth is also Leelee’s manager. LeeLee is an American actress. Her first name Liliane was the name of her paternal grandmother. Elsvaeta is from Elzbieta which is the Polish version of Elizabeth. Leelee has a younger brother Robert who was attending Princeton University. Her maternal grandfather was a captain in the United States Navy and was Jewish. Leelee has stated that she is very much proud of her Jewish heritage. LeeLee attended the Trevor Day School and then went on to study literature and fine arts at Brown University.
Her first big role was in the movie Deep Impact in 1998 while Leelee was still a teenager. She also played a modern Lolita in the Stanley Kubrick movie Eyes Wide Shut from 1999. Her opinion of Stanley Kubrick was that he had something magic that he held. And her recollection of Tom Cruise was that he was very kind and considerate. Leelee won the title role in the television movie Joan of Arc in 1999. The role earned her an Emmy Award nomination and a Golden Globe nomination. There was a second nomination for her role in the 2001 television movie Uprising.
In 1998 she had a role in the film A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries. 2002 saw a role in L’Idole and in 2003 Leelee took on a role in the miniseries Les Liaisons dangereuses. In the miniseries she worked with Catherin Deneuve and Rupert Everett, it is an adaptation of Laclos classic novel of sexual intrigue. Leelee speaks fluent French and used her skills when making the miniseries. She learnt to speak French from her father, who is currently living in France. Leelee is engaged to fashion designeer Adam Kimmel and the couple have a baby girl Louisanna Ray Kimmel.
